"A Gamay expression to discover for all aficionados!

The Gamay vines on a half-volcanic, half-argillo-granitic terroir give us a very mineral expression, typical of these basaltic soils. The wine is fresh, full of red fruits supported by light spicy notes. The mouth is greedy and fruity, with explosive freshness and a light structure.

About the domain :

Gilles Bonnefoy created his estate from scratch in 1997, planting vines from 2001 to 2016 and setting up the winery in 2004. Today, a 10.5-hectare biodynamic estate, set on the outskirts of 2 volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

Wine rated (guide 2025) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Gamay sur Volcan shows reserve, its omnipresent minerality taking over today. A fine cuvée to look forward to.

About the domain :

Les Vins de la Madone is one of the most exciting experiences in Côtes du Forez, a discreet appellation located between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez natural park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d'Urfé), a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This radiance, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic vineyard management (certified in 2008) and vinification partly in whole bunches, with ageing exclusively in vats. The star of this domaine is firmly set.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 28/03/2024

A cuvee of immediate pleasure with a joyful, expressive tone, revealing the full ripeness of the grapes. A lively, explosive attack is followed by a palate in which luxuriant, crisp red fruit, delicate violet aromas and fine spices all flow together. The whole, enhanced by the stimulating tension of a perfectly juicy structure, slides easily into a mouth dominated by this fruitiness that imposes itself with insolence right through to the finish, where freshness is also invited by the return of vibrant acidity. Best drunk young, this spurt of fresh, dapper fruit is just in time for the onset of spring and the start of bbqs. For now, it matched the bloodiness of a generous Charolais steak tartare, followed by a Reblochon fermier. Score = 3.9.
