Gault & Millau

"Vau Jaumier has a strong structure resulting from low, perfectly controlled yields! In a southern style (roasted black and blue fruits), with a hint of racy, smoky flavors (graphite), it's still tight, but full of energy" (Les Meilleurs Vins de France - Gault Millau). A red that harmoniously blends very ripe, almost candied red fruit, grape and oak tannins.... Perfect!

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Rated 17/20 (Outstanding)

Domaine rated 1*Star (Serious production)

About the wine:

Vau Jaumier boasts a strong structure resulting from perfectly controlled low yields! In a southern style (roasted black and blue fruits), nestled in racy, smoky flavors (graphite), it's still tightly wound but full of energy!

About the domain :

Gérald Vallée farms 27 hectares of Cabernet Franc, all of which have been converted to organic farming, with all the care one can imagine: tilling the soil, thinning out the leaves... All the grapes are grown in the Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil appellation. In the cellar, no yeast or enzymes are added to the vats.

Domaine noté (guide 2018) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and that, as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

Gérald Vallée set himself the challenge of switching to manual harvesting in 2004, when 90% of the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellation was still machine-picked. Good for him, because his wines, which used to appear episodically in our tastings of each new vintage, have since earned their stripes as great Cabernet Francs. We love the precise fruitiness of the entry-level wines, the chalky tension expressed in Le Vau Jaumier, a hillside cleared twenty years ago, and the mellow spirit of L'Envolée, a deep, opulent Bourgueil.
