Rated estate (2025 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Always present on his estate, Jean-Pierre Chevalier has passed on his passion for wine to his two daughters, Caroline and Cécile. They make the most of this limestone hillside in Souzay, where the Clos de la Bienboire opens the ball with a delicious red wine, followed by the velvety and refined Vieille Vigne cuvée. The whites are not to be outdone, the wines age perfectly in the bottle and the older vintages are benchmarks. With prices that remain attractive, this is one of the most exciting certified organic estates in the region.

Wine rating (2024 guide) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)

About wine:

The Saumur Les Cormiers 2022, made from Chenin Blanc, exudes a delicate and lively bouquet of pear, white flowers, menthol, spices, and spring flowers, followed by a medium-bodied to full-bodied palate that is taut, pure, and easy, lively and charming, ending with a taut, indulgent, and ethereal finish. This is an excellent interpretation of one of Saumur's best terroirs for dry white wines.

Wine rating (2025 guide) 94/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

Les Cormiers promises to be ripe and concentrated in 2022. It perfectly embodies dry, clean, ripe Chenin, with beautiful shoulders, sculpted by a prominent, very mouthwatering finish. Open now and within ten years, or even longer. One of the finest vintages tasted from this cuvée.

About the estate:

Villeneuve has historically been a great terroir for dry and sometimes sweet Chenin Blanc (Coteaux de Saumur appellation), with remarkable aging potential. Jean-Pierre Chevallier manages the family vineyard, partly located on the spectacular Souzay hillside, with high standards and passion. Reflecting the character of this limestone hillside, this Bordeaux-trained oenologist produces consistent, colorful reds with freshness. He has gradually refined his winemaking techniques and established himself as one of the greatest stylists in the Saumur region. We are completely won over by his perfectly balanced wines, which offer sensual interpretations of Cabernet Franc without compromising their origins.
