Bettane & Desseauve
Although it bears its name well, it was the land registry that gave it to this small 1.5-hectare vineyard. It is said that horses used to come here to drink... Vinified with a focus on fruit, it is perfect for drinking on its own and also pairs well with sunny lunches. It is ideal for summer barbecues, or simply as an aperitif with friends.

Wine rated 15/20 + Favorite (2013 vintage) (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Always present on his estate, Jean-Pierre Chevalier has passed on his passion for wine to his two daughters, Caroline and Cécile. They make the most of this limestone hillside in Souzay, where the Clos de la Bienboire opens the ball with a delicious red wine, followed by the velvety and refined Vieille Vigne cuvée. The whites are not to be outdone, the wines age perfectly in the bottle and the older vintages are benchmarks. With prices that remain attractive, this is one of the most exciting certified organic estates in the region.

Wine rating (2016 guide) 16/20 (2013 vintage) (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
Villeneuve has historically been a great terroir for dry and sometimes sweet Chenin Blanc (Coteaux de Saumur appellation), with remarkable aging potential. Jean-Pierre Chevallier manages the family vineyard, partly located on the spectacular Souzay hillside, with high standards and passion. Reflecting the character of this limestone hillside, this Bordeaux-trained oenologist produces consistent, colorful reds with freshness. He has gradually refined his winemaking techniques and established himself as one of the greatest stylists in the Saumur region. We are completely won over by his perfectly balanced wines, which offer sensual interpretations of Cabernet Franc without compromising their origins.

Drunk over two days: first day without aeration. A fruity wine that goes down a treat with cold cuts. Surprisingly rich for a casual wine, almost silky. The next day, more stone fruit than fruit, but still very drinkable.
