Domaine Le Rocher des Violettes
Touraine
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Xavier Weisskopf farms 9 hectares in Montlouis and 4 in the Touraine appellation. His terroirs are planted with old vines resulting from massal selection, which favors high-flying cuvées. The whites impress with their purity, in an appellation with no shortage of talent. An elite winemaker, one of the best addresses in the area.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated wine (guide 2023) 1*Star (Vintage 2020) (Very successful wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2025) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Originally from the Oise region, Xavier Weisskopf set up his own winery (17 ha, organic) in 2005. Nothing had prepared him for this profession, but his studies in Chablis introduced him to the world of wine, which led him to the "Viti" in Beaune, then to Gigondas and finally to the banks of the Loire.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated wine (guide 2023) 90/100 (Vintage 2020)
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Clémence and Xavier Weisskopf set up their vineyard in 2005 with very little money and a cellar made of odds and ends. In recent years, they have become one of Montlouis-Sur-Loire's leading names. The 17 hectares spread between Montlouis and Touraine are cultivated at Organic: Touche Mitaine (flinty clay), Les Borderies (clay-limestone, 40-year-old vines), Le Grand Poirier (clay-sandstone, 67-year-old vines)... A myriad of terroirs has been isolated in bottle, in whites aiming for aromatic nuance, delicacy, and expression with the integrity of dry Chenin or with residual sugar, depending on the mood of the vintage. The reds still have room for improvement.

This is an intriguing, seductive 100% Malbec from the Loire Valley, delicately crafted and matured, with the fresh structure of the vintage and a lovely, concentrated fruitiness. The firm, velvety tannins melt into a supple, intensely perfumed texture of lightly extracted red fruit, enveloped by a touch of woodiness with a delicately bitter finish. We can wait for the tannins to settle before enjoying this young Touraine with a forest rib steak. Score = 4.
