Domaine La Courtade is a jewel of Provence, situated in the heart of a unique and exceptional setting: the island of Porquerolles, 1,250 hectares of breathtaking natural beauty 15 kilometers from the mainland opposite Hyères. Created in 1983 by Henri Vidal, the estate was taken over in 2014 by Edouard Carmignac.
A true wine and art enthusiast, he embarked on a vast program to rebuild the estate and its vineyards. The vineyard was restructured, with 8 hectares of vines replanted, and the vines, already cultivated at Organic , are now grown according to biodynamic principles. Domaine La Courtade is a place for living and sharing, and now includes a contemporary art museum supported by the Fondation Carmignac.
La Courtade is a 35-hectare vineyard where the vines are pampered, giving pride of place to the Provencal grape varieties par excellence, notably Mourvèdre, Rolle... Domaine La Courtade 's island location provides particularly favorable conditions for the production of wines with a unique character, perfectly representing the delicious aromatic richness of Provence.
The vines grow on schist soils, benefiting from one of the highest levels of sunshine in France, and from the sea's role as a thermal regulator, which prevents the vines from suffering from excessive drought. The Mistral and easterly winds also bring their benefits, particularly during the grape ripening period. Organically farmed since 1997, Domaine La Courtade boasts some of the finest plots on the island, patiently cultivated to produce fresh treasures bursting with the sunshine of Provence.
