"A rough diamond with pronounced notes of spice and black fruit... One of the estate's finest wines!"
"The 2020 Côte-Rôtie La Turque promises to be outstanding. Bold and supremely complex, it opens with expressive notes of mocha, ripe black fruit, dried meat, pencil shavings, and cedar wood. Refreshing acidity balances the high concentration of flavors, all framed by firm but polished tannins. In short, La Turque 2020 is a wine of class and precision, endowed with remarkable inner energy and verticality." Wine rated (2025 guide) 99/100
Rated estate (2023 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the estate:
Marcel and Philippe Guigal jointly run the successful family business, which since 2017 has expanded significantly in the south, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares of land), supplemented in spring 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d'Aquéria. And still the rich parcels in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage. Wine lovers can taste some of the greatest vintages in the valley, not to mention the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône, in all three colors, and Tavel, Philippe's favorite wine.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 96/100
About wine:
It resembles a classic, with the weight and tannins necessary to assist it in aging, but it is not as massive as some recent vintages. Star anise, cinnamon, and nutmeg—very spicy this year—this wine is bold and gently fruity, with juicy, supple tannins and a long finish. The vines are located on the Côte Brune, planted by Marcel Guigal in 1980 (first vintage 1985) after being abandoned since 1935.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About wine:
With its deep color, the 2020 Turque makes an immediate impression. On the nose, it reveals complex and equally deep aromas of graphite, wild strawberry, violet, pepper, and orange chocolate. This aromatic intensity is echoed in the long finish, which is imposing, concentrated, generous, and long, carried by refined tannins, elegant oak, and perfectly balanced freshness. Energy and incredible class.
About the estate:
In addition to its "treasures" in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Condrieu, Guigal owns two beautiful plots in Saint-Joseph: the "Saint-Joseph" locality, which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l'Hospice, planted on a very steep granite hillside, already identified by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon and with a geological formation similar to the famous Bessards hill in Hermitage.

5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)
About the estate:
An iconic figure in the northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a large landowner. In the latter capacity, he cultivates famous Côte Rôtie vineyards such as La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, an oenologist representing the third generation, continues the work alongside his father, still maintaining this duality of property and trade. The vinification of the northern appellations all takes place in Ampuis.

About wine:
Notes of espresso and barrel char rise above purple raspberry notes in the 2020 Cote Rotie La Turque. The wine is full-bodied, with generous concentration and length, but it seems to lack a bit of depth compared to other recent vintages. Let's see what next year brings.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 96/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About wine:
The Turkish wine is majestic, with a tight, dynamic palate that is still tight but shows tremendous promise. A very great wine to be cellared for at least 10 years.
About the estate:
The most iconic winery in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this entity, we bring together wines from our own vineyards, which we separate from our wine trading activities. This includes the famous trio from Côte-Rôtie: La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, the first two being brands and the last a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d'Ampuis cuvée and the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star wines, there is the Vignes de l'Hospice cuvée, a Saint-Joseph located on a magnificent terroir, as well as a few large plots in Hermitage from which the Ex-Voto cuvée is produced. Marcel Guigal is ably supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently changing the style of the wines, with a slightly less dominant approach to aging. Needless to say, all these wines are made for long-term aging.

About wine:
Deep color. Very ripe nose with notes of raisins. Rich fruit flavors again, fine tannins but with more length and precision on the finish.

About wine:
The nose resembles what you smell when entering a spice market in the Far East. The full-bodied palate is highly concentrated and underestimated in terms of power, but also graceful, with the generous dose of toasted oak almost perfectly integrated. An extremely long finish that continues to expel berries, butter, orange, and stone fruit. Ready to drink now, but best enjoyed from 2027 onwards.

About wine:
The 2020 Côte Rôtie La Turque brings a little more density on the mid-palate and offers a straighter, more internal bouquet of blackcurrant, graphite, smoked meat, and iron, with subtle gamey and bloody nuances in the background. It is also full-bodied and presents a concentrated, structured palate with remarkable purity and a formidable finish.
