"A rough diamond with pronounced notes of spice and black fruit... One of the estate's finest wines!"
"The 2021 Côte Rôtie La Turque has a little more density and volume than La Mouline, which is more open. It has a solid ruby/purple color, notes of smoky blackcurrant and black fruit, violet, and peppery, fleshy nuances, a medium-bodied to full-bodied palate, impressive depth in the mid-palate, and ripe, polished tannins. This is an early-developing La Turque that should shine with only 4 to 5 years of bottle aging and be brilliant to drink over the next decade or more." Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2023 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the estate:
Marcel and Philippe Guigal jointly run the successful family business, which since 2017 has expanded significantly in the south, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares of land), supplemented in spring 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d'Aquéria. And still the rich parcels in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage. Wine lovers can taste some of the greatest vintages in the valley, not to mention the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône, in all three colors, and Tavel, Philippe's favorite wine.

About wine:
This wine is very fragrant and reminiscent of La Turque rose, with characteristic notes of star anise, nutmeg, and cinnamon, partly due to the oak. It is relatively light in body and concentration this year, but has a nice freshness. More charcoal and spice on the finish, along with a hint of vanilla. This year, the tannins are actually quite light and very fine. There is no trace of greenness; it is refined and clean. It will be ready relatively early; this is not a vintage for long aging. Low alcohol content. Sample tasted at the beginning of its long maturation in 100% new oak barrels.

About the estate:
In addition to its "treasures" in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Condrieu, Guigal owns two beautiful plots in Saint-Joseph: the "Saint-Joseph" locality, which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l'Hospice, planted on a very steep granite hillside, already identified by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon and with a geological formation similar to the famous Bessards hill in Hermitage.

5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)
About the estate:
An iconic figure in the northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a large landowner. In the latter capacity, he cultivates famous Côte Rôtie vineyards such as La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, an oenologist representing the third generation, continues the work alongside his father, still maintaining this duality of property and trade. The vinification of the northern appellations all takes place in Ampuis.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
The most iconic winery in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this entity, we bring together wines from our own vineyards, which we separate from our wine trading activities. This includes the famous trio from Côte-Rôtie: La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, the first two being brands and the last a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d'Ampuis cuvée and the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star wines, there is the Vignes de l'Hospice cuvée, a Saint-Joseph located on a magnificent terroir, as well as a few large plots in Hermitage from which the Ex-Voto cuvée is produced. Marcel Guigal is ably supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently changing the style of the wines, with a slightly less dominant approach to aging. Needless to say, all these wines are made for long-term aging.

About wine:
Attractive violet nose with an iron character. A generous fruity core—sweet red fruits and spicy notes. Toasted oak covers the sweet fruit core with a granite-like handful of tight, very firm tannins and a peppery note on the salty finish. This wine clearly has beautiful aromas and considerable oak to integrate, but it shows great promise.

About wine:
The medium-bodied Côte-Rôtie La Turque 2021 offers ripe fruit combined with meat notes and a hint of menthol. A lively freshness marks the palate, enveloped in a refined tannic structure. Finishing elegantly with a savory finish, the 2021 is less powerful than the 2020 and 2022, but it shows wonderful purity and expressiveness.
