"A Hermitage with natural class".

"Very complex nose with notes of candied orange, cocoa powder and spices. Remarkably harmonious for the vintage, with almost silky tannins, followed by an intense flinty character that gives the slightly sweet finish so much excitement. Aged entirely in oak barrels, a quarter of which are new, but only for 12 months. Enjoy or keep. (James Suckling 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (guide 1) 94/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Tasted before bottling. The nose is fruitier and more open than usual, greedy and already accessible, even if the wine will close up after bottling. On the palate, fine, well-extracted tannins, this appellation fares better than others in this vintage. But it won't keep very long, a good ten years at most.

About the domain :

In his new facilities in the heart of Tain, Jacques Grange has access to sublime, state-of-the-art equipment. He is assisted by Marco Beckmann, an Italian oenologist and wine taster. Future vintages look promising. In Hermitage, the new cuvée from the hilltop Grandes Vignes reveals this little-used terroir.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 93/100

About the wine:

Under the clove oak, the fruit is very present. Soft, ripe and with well-balanced acidity, this wine has a good sense of balance and elegance. Fresh, with an abundance of cinnamon spice and just-ripe forest berries, neither too much nor too little. A fairly concentrated Hermitage, to be enjoyed young, not very powerful, but with a certain natural class.

About the domain :

Founded in 1835 and owned by Champagne Deutz (Roederer group) since 1977. Under the direction of Fabrice Rosset and his technical director Jacques Grange, it has its own 30 ha in the northern appellations, supplemented by grape purchases, with the southern range coming from the négociant-éléveur side.

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

Delas has been part of Champagne Deutz since 1977, and is now part of the Louis Roederer group. Priority has been given to vineyards with a high proportion of massal selection plantings. The company has its own vineyards covering 30 hectares, including 10 in Hermitage: 8 at Les Bessards and 2 at L'Ermite. The company completes its range by purchasing musts and grapes. We confess to sometimes being a little circumspect when faced with the overly marked ageing of the most prestigious cuvées, which in our opinion deserve to be worked closer to the fruit and freshness. It should be noted that, as of 2019, the house has a brand-new vinification and reception facility in Tain.

About the wine:

The Hermitage Domaine Des Tourettes 2021 stands out clearly from the range and will be a rock-solid Hermitage. Darker raspberries, cassis, classic oak, saddle leather and some meaty notes define this beauty, and its medium-bodied palate is balanced and elegant. It has the fresher style of the vintage, but the tannins are ripe and present, the balance is perfect and the intensity is good. It will be accessible in its youth, but I think it will evolve gracefully.
