"Strawberries, the true queen of this vintage!"

"Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre for this red wine, only 15% of which has been aged in barrels. On the nose, an explosion of fresh strawberry and blackcurrant, nuanced with a hint of cherry brandy and cumin. The palate is dense, smooth, fleshy, and fruity, stretching into a finely toasted finish, taut from start to finish with just the right amount of acidity. A Lirac with character." Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

The estate offers expressive wines from the finest vineyards in Vaucluse and Gard. Everything is done with the utmost respect for the terroirs, with the aim of producing wines that live up to their potential. Madeleine Delorme, accompanied by her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination in the spirit of excellence that characterizes the estate and this winegrowing family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, enlivened by a thirst-quenching tension and a perfectly balanced structure. The estate is moving towards increasingly racy and precise wines. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 92/100

About wine:

Round, medium-bodied, the oak is well balanced and adds a little sparkle to the fruit. Good length and depth, ripe, with a slight warmth from the alcohol. Succulent and fresh, this wine is very pleasant. Serious for a Lirac!

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About wine:

Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre are used for this red wine, only 15% of which has been aged in barrels. The nose offers an explosion of fresh strawberry and blackcurrant, nuanced with a hint of cherry brandy and cumin. The palate is dense, smooth, fleshy and fruity, stretching into a finely toasted finish, taut throughout with just the right amount of acidity. A Lirac with character.

About the estate:

Created in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread over 38 plots and eight communes. Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel, their original stronghold, Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or "simple" Côtes-du-Rhône. Unmissable.

About wine:

Discerning wine lovers know that this vintage is one of the winery's star products. Lirac La Reine des Bois 2020 (made from roughly equal parts Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah) is a rich and intense wine with intriguing aromas of crushed stone, pencil shavings, ripe cherries, and bright blueberries. Full-bodied and powerful, it nevertheless remains silky and elegant on the finish.

About wine:

A core of violets is enveloped by blackberries, redcurrants, black licorice, thyme, and mint, all delicately framed by warm pastry spices. The palate is silky, with black fruits taking center stage. Absolutely delicious and captivating, this wine should hold up well until 2035+.

About wine:

Aromatic nose of black and blue berries, with delicate notes of licorice, sandalwood, and bergamot. Rich and concentrated, yet decidedly dry. The fine tannins have a wonderful taste of dark chocolate and carry this full-bodied wine across the palate with surprising liveliness. The finish is very long and powdery, with lots of spicy complexity. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

About wine:

More dense, the Lirac La Reine De Bois 2020 displays extraordinary purity in its aromas of black raspberry and darker cherry, violet, flowers, and sapid garrigue. It is medium-bodied, with fine tannins, a fluid, pure and magnificent texture, and an excellent finish. This is a very good Lirac (probably the best in the appellation) that will evolve over a decade.
