Muscat de Beaumes de Venise: refinement and intensity

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a Rhône Valley appellation, recognized as an AOC in 1945. Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a natural sweet wine with a worldwide reputation, made from a terroir protected by the Dentelles de Montmirail, which favors the cultivation of Muscat à petits grains and Muscat à gros grains,

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise sweet wines are golden, with aromas of flowers and exotic fruits, and a long finish. Made from blends of white and black Muscat à petits grains, their color can vary from amber to rosé to crimson.

With almost 10,000 hectoliters, AOC Muscat de Beaumes de Venise offers a quality that guarantees its international reputation at the highest level. The vintages offered by Maison Perrin et Fils bear witness to the fact that this reputation has not been usurped.
The origins of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This sweet wine reveals all the flavors of muscats à petits grains. Popular in the 18th century, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise regained popularity in the 19th century. Its golden color charmed many, including Pope Clement IV. Little by little, this Muscat became a wine shared by the great families and nobility. In 1943, this sweet, fruity wine was awarded an appellation d'origine contrôlée.

Growing methods for Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This Muscat, otherwise known as "Muscat des Papes", is grown on marl, sand or clay soils. The importance of soil in winegrowing takes on its full meaning when it comes to producing a delicate, fruity Muscat. Muscat grapes need to be bathed in sunlight, soaking up the sun's rays. Brightness plays a key role in this type of cultivation. Indeed, the presence of sunlight has an impact on the sugar content of this muscat, which is a selection criterion. Muscat must contain more than 252 grams of sugar per liter to qualify for the appellation. What's more, Muscat grapes are generally hand-picked.

The colour of Beaumes de Venise Muscat:

Depending on the vineyards, the color of this Muscat can vary. This sweet wine has a golden, iridescent color.

Special features of this wine:
Nose:
Thanks to its high sugar content, this Muscat gives off strong aromas of exotic fruits and floral notes. Occasionally, citrus or grape brandy scents can be detected.

In the mouth:
Between freshness and sweetness, this muscat reveals soft notes of lime blossom, candied citrus fruit and a mentholated finish. Unlike other muscats, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is more syrupy than sweet.

Tasting tips

Ideal tasting temperature :
This Muscat is best enjoyed chilled. We generally recommend keeping it quite cold, i.e. between 6 and 8°C. The cooler it is, the more you'll enjoy it.

At the table:
This Beaumes de Venise wine is particularly suited to aperitifs, but can also accompany light meats and some desserts.

As an aperitif:
If you want to liven up your aperitifs with melon, foie gras or terrine, this Muscat is a perfect match.

Main course:
The flavors of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise go perfectly with poultry and leg of lamb. Indeed, this wine should be paired with fairly light dishes.

With cheese and certain desserts:
Mild cheeses such as fresh goat's cheese are particularly well-suited to this Muscat. For desserts, you can opt for vanilla or chocolate flans. Panna cotta or iced nougat will also magnify Muscat.
