"The 2013 Côtes du Roussillon Vieilles Vignes is a stunning product. Beautifully concentrated, with classic notes of juniper, lilac, pepper and wild herbs, endowed with great soul to the sweet fruit, it is medium to full-bodied, with acidity integrated into a pure, energetic and taut profile. This is a classic 2013 that will benefit from short-term cellaring, and evolve well over a decade." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

Wine rated (2016 guide) 17.5/20 (Reference wine)

About the wine:

An ultra-powerful nose, but above all one of great purity, with black fruit, floral, meat and cherry juices. Phenomenal dry extract on the palate, coupled with very fine tannin. It's an energetic, mineral, long wine.

Rated (2016 guide) 17/20 (Grand vin)

Domain rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)

About the wine:

With the freshness of its garrigue notes and its classic, fresh profile, Vieilles Vignes rouge 2013 has extra saline density and energy, with abundant, sapid tannins: you'll have to wait a little for its fruit to develop crisply.

About the domain :

Since his beginnings in the mid-1980s, Gérard Gauby has been an inspiring, demanding and passionate winemaker. His vines are cultivated with love and respect for plants and the ecosystem. He has revealed to the world the complexity and potential of Calce's ferruginous limestone and schist terroir. The winemaker has also succeeded in evolving his style towards less elevated, purer and more airy wines. Accompanied by his son, he continues this quest, with his cuvées gaining in expression and deliciousness. The whites are straightforward, with superb longevity and controlled ageing. The reds are pure and deep. The 2021s are top-of-the-range in both colors.

Given the memory of the Muntada, drunk in the 2010s, I had fond memories of Gauby and its silkiness. It's good, but for my taste lacks body and expression for a bottle from the south. Perhaps the vintage had something to do with it?
