Robert Parker

"Élodie and Matthieu Collet have followed in Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil's footsteps in a very fine way, producing wines that have lost none of their personality. Here, they offer a superb vinification of Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre in vats. Brilliant, with an intense purple color, this 2016 presents a seductive nose of redcurrant, blueberry and pepper, evolving towards toast and leather. The palate is greedy, full-bodied and delicious, underpinned by a powerful yet velvety tannic structure with a fine, elegant grain. Great ageing potential". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)

About the domain :

The origins of the estate, where 6 generations have succeeded one another, date back to 1864. The estate boasts a 25-hectare vineyard planted on a variety of terroirs. Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been at the helm of the estate since 1989, and for almost 30 years they have been producing wines with strong personalities, both dry and vins doux naturels. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young winemaking couple, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

Rated (2019 guide) 90/100 (Wonderful wine)

About the wine:

This Maury Sec 2016 is a blend of grenache (80%) and mourvèdre (20%), aged in vats. It's already more than just a fruity wine. It's full of black fruit with a hint of raspberry, but also subtle spicy notes and dark chocolate. This is a full-bodied, ripe wine with supple tannins, to be enjoyed now.

Tasted in 2021, correct but hardly worthy of 90 out of 100 (more like 87-88 in my opinion), must surely age further. Honestly not worth the asking price (16 euros). There are better things on the site at this price and/or cheaper (10-12 max) for similar pleasure.

Oppulent, seductive on the palate, offering dark fruit flavors (blueberries, blackberries, prunes, etc.), with smooth, silky tannins. Short finish. It's a pity that the price seems overrated, as is unfortunately the case with many Languedoc and Roussillon wines.

A little disappointed on opening, but won over the next day by the developed aromas. The wine gains in depth and blossoms into a beautiful finish. And even better the day after! Should benefit from ageing.
