"A few purplish tints adorn the ruby-red color of this garnet-red wine, which opens with the freshness of Morello cherry, followed by jammy fruit, finely spiced and coated by a lovely woodiness. Velvety, fresh and bursting with fruit, especially blackberry, the palate is full-bodied and sweet, with a touch of cocoa and astringency on the finish. A wine with character, and a gourmet pairing with chocolate fondant". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2023)

About the wine:
A few purplish highlights adorn the ruby-red color of this garnet-red wine, which opens with the freshness of Morello cherry, followed by jammy fruit, finely spiced and coated by a lovely woodiness. Velvety, fresh and bursting with fruit, especially blackberry, the palate is full-bodied and sweet, with a touch of cocoa and astringency on the finish. Definitely a wine with character, and a gourmet pairing with chocolate fondant.
About the domain :
The origins of the estate, where 6 generations have succeeded one another, date back to 1864. The estate boasts a 25-hectare vineyard planted on a variety of terroirs. Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been at the helm of the estate since 1989, and for almost 30 years they have been producing wines with strong personalities, both dry and vins doux naturels. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young winemaking couple, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

Still showing the reserve of its youth, Grenat is warm and full-bodied, yet endowed with fine, silky tannins, dominated by fruit macerated in brandy and chocolate notes. The whole, based on careful ageing, gives way to a fine balance right through to the finish, with roasted, woody and vanilla nuances, and a touch of sweet bitters. Without boxing in the ring with the illustrious Préceptorie and Amiel, Grenat remains a good starter for discovering Maury's intrinsic qualities of depth and delicacy. Very pleasant this autumn, at 14° with a dark chocolate and walnut cake with a hint of chestnut honey. Score = 4.
