Marestel is also a favorite hillside for Mondeuse. Made from the oldest vines on the estate, it has given birth to a true wine of passion. The nose offers spicy, peppery notes combined with aromas of wedges and black fruits. On the palate, the wine is fresh, invigorating, rustic and dense, typical of this emblematic Savoy grape variety. A wine of character to be aged for up to 15 years and enjoyed with game, for example.

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
On the Jongieux terroir, Château de la Mar stands out silhouetted against the folds of the hills. This former 13th-century fortified house once belonged to the Count of Mareste, who gave his name to the precious Marestel cru. In 2009, the property was taken over by Jean-Paul Richard, a businessman and entrepreneur, who returned to running the vineyard; since 2013, he has added a hospitality business with five guest rooms. This specialist in roussette (of the 6.5 hectares of vineyards, 5 are cru Marestel) offers several parcel-based gourmet cuvées that reach a crescendo in amplitude on the palate, buoyed by rich maturity and a generous profile. A special mention for the new pinot noir cuvée, this year's pleasant surprise!
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté Award-winning wines (Wines from this producer regularly win awards in the guide)
About the domain :
Jean-Paul Richard bought this splendid 13th-century building, which was falling into ruin at the foot of the Marestel hillside, in 2009 and renovated it until 2013. It was once the property of Count Humbert de Mareste, the famous crusader who brought back the first plants of the Altesse grape variety from Cyprus. He runs his 7-hectare vineyard biodynamically (not certified) and entrusts the vinification to Olivier Turlais, the region's renowned oenologist.
