In the commune of Jongieux, at the foot of the Alps, on the left bank of the Rhône behind Le Bourget du Lac, lies the château de la Mar dating back to the Middle Ages. The estate and its 7 ha of vines are at the heart of the appellation cru Marestel which totals 22 ha and is the jewel in Jongieux's crown. Situated on the slopes of Mont de la Charvaz, its terraces are said to be the steepest in the wine world (according to Robert Parker). Its soils are composed of Kimmeridgian marl-limestone scree. The château de la Mar benefits from a full-west exposure and a microclimate provided by its proximity to the Rhône. The ideal, privileged sunshine means that here, the Altesse is sublime. Visit château de la MarEach plot is harvested and sorted by hand, guaranteeing optimal health at harvest. Marestel is also a favorite hillside for Mondeuse. Made from the oldest vines on the estate, it has given birth to a true wine of passion. The nose offers spicy, peppery notes combined with aromas of wedges and black fruits. On the palate, the wine is fresh, invigorating, rustic and dense, typical of this emblematic Savoy grape variety. A wine of character to be aged for up to 15 years and enjoyed with game, for example.
