Château de la Mar
In the commune of Jongieux, at the foot of the Alps, on the left bank of the Rhône behind Le Bourget du Lac, stands the medieval Château de la Mar. The estate and its 7 hectares of vines are at the heart of the Marestel appellation , which covers a total area of 22 hectares and is the jewel in the crown of the Jongieux vineyards. This hillside is located on the slopes of Mont de la Charvaz, and its terraces are said to be the steepest in the wine world (according to Robert Parker). Its soils are composed of Kimmeridgian marl-limestone scree. Château de la Mar enjoys a west-facing exposure and a microclimate provided by its proximity to the Rhône. The ideal and privileged sunshine means that the nobility of the grapes is sublimated here. At Château de la Mar, each plot is harvested and sorted by hand, guaranteeing optimal health at harvest time. The partially grass-covered vines are cultivated using sustainable agriculture methods, makingthe AOC Roussette de Savoie Cru Marestel and the Mondeuse, Chardonnay, Altesse, and Jacquère grape varieties the kings of this exceptional vineyard.
