Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Alain-Dominique Perrin has worked hard to make the magnificent Lagrézette estate one of the beacons of the Cahors revival. The progress made since the cellar renovation is clear to see: the wines have gained in elegance, and the fruit is better highlighted by the ageing process. We particularly appreciate the Château and Clos Marguerite cuvees, remarkable this year.

About the domain :
A star estate in the Cadurcian vineyards, acquired in 1985 by businessman Alain-Dominique Perrin. It is renowned for the distinctive architecture of its 16th-century manor house, with its pepper-pot towers, sloping roofs and dovecote; for its vineyard heritage (82 ha), cultivated since the 16th century; and, above all, for its ambitious wines, regularly featured in these pages.

An outstanding expression of the Cahors appellation. A wine of character, Chevalier imposes itself through its power and opulence - without excess or heaviness - combined with elegance and great finesse. With great intensity, it reveals a pleasant balance between acidity and a dense body, bursting with pure, sparkling red fruit, slightly kirschy. Supple tannins, perfectly integrated and velvety, with a fine, delicate grain and just the right amount of oak. Overflowing with fruit and sweet spices, it lingers on the palate with heady persistence. A rare level of quality for the moderate price of €15. With such armor, this colorful and flavorful Chevalier will make it through the current decade with ease. Immediate pleasure with fillets of young venison in mirtylle sauce, accompanied by butternut purée. Score = 4.2.
