"Notable intensity of fruit, acidity and tannins. Despite this wine's youth, it has depth and vibrant energy. The fruit is ripe and bright, peppery, very fresh and pure. The tannins are layered: velvet, oak bark, raw cement, gunpowder. This wine is full of potential and may well be ready to drink before 2019." (Jancis Robinson 2023)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
A classic estate in the appellation, producing solid, tannic Cahors at the price of a certain austerity in the basic wines. The cuvée Expression, made from good vines on the third terrace, is exemplary in its consistency.

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
A little Tannat (10%) complements the Malbec in this original cuvée, which is open to blackcurrant, violet and above all spices, with mineral notes to boot. The aromas are prolonged by a very fresh, long, harmonious palate, with fine, silky tannins.
About the domain :
Legend has it that the boughs of a hundred-year-old oak tree once sheltered the gallant rendezvous of a beautiful Martine. In 2016, Alain Gayraud handed over the reins to his children Lise and Benjamin, who have a wealth of experience abroad, to manage this estate with its ancient origins (1883), located on the edge of the Lot-et-Garonne region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares, facing due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
With Cuvée Particulière, we enter the flesh of the Malbec supported by a touch of Tannat for the wine of spice on a sculptural touch. You'll have to wait for the fruit to settle and for the not-so-far-away flowers to burst into the bouquet.
About the domain :
The destiny of the Gayraud family estate is now in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain's children. This classic estate delivers wines that are fair, balanced and true to the image of Cahors. The new generation has brought more energy and modernity to the cuvées, which focus on the fruit.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)
About the wine:
With its dense black fruit and rich tannins, this is a full-bodied, spicy wine. Its powerful structure is supported by over a year's ageing in wood. The wine is concentrated and ready to drink from 2025.

About the wine:
The nose of wild currant, herbs, earth, bark and spices carries through to a medium- to full-bodied body with fine, firm tannins. Crunchy cherries at the heart and a succulent, silky finish. For drinking or cellaring.

What's more, I've always loved Cahors wines and I already have quite a few in my cellar of very high quality; this goes very well with them.
