"A good entry into the range

"The Gayraud Family seems to have bridged the worlds of Mendoza and Cahors with this predominantly Malbec cuvée - dark juice and jam, playful tannins, a little Cahors claw in the bite of the bitterness and the back pull of the ever-so-slightly gnarled tannins that get soft as clay under the flood of fruit. And a little black sign of medicinal elderberry, just in case you thought it was too easy." (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

A classic estate in the appellation, producing solid, tannic Cahors at the price of a certain austerity in the basic wines. The cuvée Expression, made from good vines on the third terrace, is exemplary in its consistency.

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Legend has it that the boughs of a hundred-year-old oak tree once sheltered the gallant rendezvous of a beautiful Martine. Since 2016, Alain Gayraud has handed over the reins to his children Lise and Benjamin, who have a wealth of experience abroad, to manage this estate with its ancient origins (1883), located on the edge of the Lot-et-Garonne region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares, facing due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Wine rated (guide 2025) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Malbec shows perfect precision in Cahors 2021, sculpted by the freshness of the year. Its mad charm is only just beginning to take hold.

About the domain :

The destiny of the Gayraud family estate is now in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain's children. This classic estate delivers wines that are fair, balanced and true to the image of Cahors. The new generation has brought more energy and modernity to the cuvées, which focus on fruit.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 90/100

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

This balanced blend from the fourth generation of the Gayraud family, with 10% Merlot to soften the 90% Malbec, has aromas of spice and vanilla and rich, dark tannins. It's a solid wine, with black fruit and a dry core that promises to age. Drink from 2026.

About the wine:

The Gayraud family seems to have built a bridge between the worlds of Mendoza and Cahors with this predominantly Malbec cuvée - dark juice and jam, playful tannins, a little Cahors claw in the bite of the bitterness and the pull back of the ever-so-slightly gnarled tannins that become soft as clay under the flood of fruit. And a little black sign of medicinal elderberry, just in case you thought it was too easy.
