Marmandais coastline
The Côtes du Marmandais appellation, located in Agen and Bordeaux and bordered to the south by the Landes forest, is a transition zone between Entre-Deux-Mers to the west and the Agenais hillsides to the east. Côtes du Marmandais covers an area of 1,320 hectares spanning 27 municipalities in Lot-et-Garonne.

Côtes du Marmandais was recognized as an AOC in 1990. The appellation produces three colors of wine: red (85% of production), white, and rosé. On the right bank, the soils are limestone and clay-limestone, with Merlot, Abouriou, and Malbec as the dominant grape varieties. On the left bank, the soils are based on permeable gravel, suitable for grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Abouriou, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc. Abouriou is a red grape variety native to the region.
