"The wine's tension holds the whole together on a vertical backbone and a good expression of wild négrette. A hint of vegetal, however, ratifies the whole. To be seen with ageing. (Le Guide RVF 2022)

Fronton
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 88/100
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
A great success and a model for the appellation, this fronton illustrates all the potential of négrette to make slightly more structured wines too, quite racy even if it lacks the length to play in the top category.
About the domain :
When he took over his father's vineyards, Marc Penavayre wanted to develop the style of the local wines towards finer, more elegant products, an evolution that could be found in other villages of the South-West in the 1980s and 1990s. This began with greater diligence in the vineyard, which has been certified organic since 2011. But also with a rethinking of grape varieties, giving pride of place to the local négrette, and also planting whites that should astonish. And finally, a more balanced use of barrels. The entire range is designed to promote forgotten grape varieties and wines that are accessible from an early age, in a perfectly mastered style.

About the domain :
An agricultural engineer and nologist, Marc Penavayre has given new impetus to the family estate, which he took over, restructured and expanded in 1991. His son Thibaut joined him in 2019. The vineyard now covers 26 ha and completed its organic conversion in 2012.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated wine (guide 2022) 89/100
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
The wine's tension holds the whole together on a vertical backbone and a good expression of wild négrette. A hint of vegetal, however, ratifies the whole. To be seen with ageing.
About the domain :
A driving force behind the revival of the Frontonnais region for over twenty years, Marc Penavayre gives his own interpretation of the local négrette grape variety. Certified organic since 2011, and now joined by his son Thibaut, Marc takes each year a step further in the precision of his grapes. The profile of the wines remains juicy and appealing, and the cuvées with names sometimes unpronounceable without the help of an Occitan dictionary now define the Fronton identity. Constantly evolving and produced without inputs, the range will enable everyone to find the wine that suits their tasting style. This year, we are awarding the estate its first star.
