"The 2019 Château Montus shows the evolution of this property's style, displaying more density and seriousness without more extraction than its 2016 counterparts. It offers aromas of loamy soil, blueberries, blackberries, spices and pencil lead, followed by a round, enveloping and charming palate, with a layered fruit core and a long, velvety, penetrating finish. This blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc highlights the roundness and fleshiness of the clay soils. A must-have for the next decade and beyond. (Wine Advocate 2024)

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
Alain Brumont develops his personality through a style that takes wines from Madiran around the world under the label of Château Montus, which he bought in 1980. Brumont's cuvées often go against conventional wisdom, demonstrating his freedom in interpreting the terroirs' yellow and red clay subsoils, with gradients ranging from 20 to 40%. Tannat expresses itself in the château's three cuvées, Prestige, XL, Montus and La Tyre, and certainly delivers the most spectacular profile of this not-easy-to-handle Pyrenean grape.

About the wine:
Meaty, black cherry, firmly tannic on the palate, leaving a long leathery finish with more tartness than the Nebbiolo. A true wine for laying down, convincing in its uncompromising intensity.

About the wine:
A judicious blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc, Château Montus 2019 is a wine of character and class. Pencil shavings, cedar wood, black cherry, black plum and forest floor come to the fore. Passage through the glass brings out nuances of iodine and herbs. Very fine tannins elegantly frame this uncluttered, fully concentrated 2019 red. It spent the first year in barriques (50% new), then two years in large 80 hectoliter foudres.
