2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

"The color is dense and deep. It heralds the intensity of the bouquet, inhabited by a noble woodiness inherited from twenty-four months in barrel, which mingles with ripe fruit on aeration. The palate attacks with suavity and greed, before revealing plenty of chewiness and consistency, as well as pleasant freshness. It's framed by solid tannins and controlled oak, which underpins the structure without overpowering the wine, and adds extra complexity. In short, a perfectly balanced Madiran, to be cellared for four or five years". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16.5/20 (Reference wine)

About the wine:

Full-bodied, with a woodiness that is not drying out but still dominating, velvety and mellow with a unique texture, tannat at work.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2014 guide) 2*Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

One year follows another at the Brumont vineyards: many stars, and very often Favorites. Honor the king of tannat with this cuvée La Tyre, whose 2007 version has already been crowned winner. The color is dense and deep. It announces the intensity of the bouquet, inhabited by a noble woodiness inherited from twenty-four months in barrel, which mingles with ripe fruit on aeration. The palate attacks with suavity and greed, before revealing plenty of chewiness and consistency, as well as pleasant freshness. It's framed by solid tannins and controlled oak, which underpins the structure without overpowering the wine, and adds extra complexity. In short, a perfectly balanced Madiran, to be cellared for four or five years.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Rated 16.5/20 (Very good)

About the wine:

Nose of incense, leather and beef broth. The flagship cuvée of the appellation, with a soft, sensual texture. Powerful yet round on the palate, with notes of pink berries and undeniable ageing potential, while the barrel is digested. Serve immediately with beef cheeks with pink pepper.

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

The 2010 Tyre seems to possess an extra touch of maturity. Its profile as a big, full-bodied wine is quietly asserting itself: smoothness, then firmness, length and freshness.

About the domain :

Alain Brumont develops his personality through a style that takes wines from Madiran around the world under the label of Château Montus, which he bought in 1980. Brumont's cuvées often go against conventional wisdom, demonstrating his freedom in interpreting the terroirs' yellow and red clay subsoils, with gradients ranging from 20 to 40%. Tannat expresses itself in the château's three cuvées, Prestige, XL, Montus and La Tyre, and certainly delivers the most spectacular profile of this not-easy-to-handle Pyrenean grape.
