James Suckling
"Close your eyes and enjoy!
"Last year of organic conversion for this vintage, fermented and aged in 300L oak barrels, where Sauvignon reigns supreme. The wood is hardly noticeable in this wine, which seduces with its assertive minerality, with accents of gunflint. A tonality in harmony with a pleasant liveliness, which will work wonders with seafood, many cheeses or even a good blanquette de veau". (Le Guide Hachette 2023)

Montravel
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have been working hard since 1981 to raise the Montravel flag on this estate inherited from Jean-François' father. Today, it covers 52 hectares on the slopes and plateau of Vélines. The vineyard has not yet gone organic, but is striving to do the best it can. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it in hand. Their extensive, well-structured range enables them to offer wines for every occasion. The new winery will enable them to push their vision even further, with the addition of some experimental cuvées.

About the domain :
A very old family estate (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast domaine is today one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist", who is now handing over to his children Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) extends over 2 very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a boulbène plateau. In organic conversion.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 89/100
About the wine:
On the nose, peaches, sliced apples, almonds, pits and lemon verbena. Hints of white pepper. Medium-bodied, with lively acidity and a textured, mineral palate. Pleasant finish. Drink now.
