"A Gewurztraminer with a future!
"Lots of stone fruit and very ripe grapefruit, but just a hint of exotic, floral extravagance. Great balance between richness and freshness, a full-bodied palate remarkably straight and clean for this grape variety. The lively acidity and delicate chalky character give this wine plenty of personality on the very long finish." (James Suckling 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Jacky Barthelmé sums it up bluntly: "We're very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker's vintage. Those who were in the vineyards had grapes. It didn't just happen. And the tasting of the range proves him right: Pinot Noirs as successful as ever, beautiful Rieslings, and even Pinot Gris with a drier balance than in the past, which can only delight us.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Rated (guide 2022) 91/100 (Wonderful wine)
About the wine:
Formerly marketed with the words "Vieilles Vignes" on the label, the Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum 2020 offers a pure, refreshing mineral nose featuring lemon notes intertwined with smoky notes of crushed cold stones. Rich and unctuous, yet tight and very mineral on the palate, this is a powerful Furstentum, still a little bitter and tightly woven, which will need some time to refine and soften its fine but grippy tannins. This 2020 is higher in alcohol (14.5%) than the 2019, with 22 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted at the estate in May 2022.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domain rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)
About the domain :
The estate, born of the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, two great winegrowing lines dating back to the 17th century, delivers wines of the highest quality, emblematic of what Alsace can produce. Maurice, an inspired biodynamist and dowser in his spare time, has brought purity to his wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine have a highly developed sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The wines' balance, digestibility and depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds are at the top of Alsace production and among the finest in France. This success has made them rare wines.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100
About the wine:
The Gewurztraminer Furstentum Grand Cru 2020 is made from four parcels of vines aged 60, 45, 25 and 10-15 years. The youngest vines are a massal selection from a vineyard planted in 1932. On the nose, the sweetest note is creamy peach, aided by the freshness of dried lemon zest. The palate has immense texture, juicy acidity, notions of ripe, aromatic peach, with a phenolic hint of apple-seed bitterness. The fact that this wine contains 23 g/l residual sugar is surprising, as the finish is barely dry. Astonishing balance. (Dry)
