Looking back to the Moulin à Vent less than a kilometer away, it's on these very poor soils of shallow granite sand that Les Moriers draws its character in a stretched, dense palate combining substance and a greedy profile with a certain power. A structured Fleurie that remains supple and charming in this 2021 vintage.

About the domain :
A former négociant for the Trenel house, Grégoire Hoppenot took over Jean-Paul Champagnon's 10 ha estate in 2018 to fly solo. The parcels of young vines are certified organic, with the rest in the process of conversion.

About the domain :
I discovered the wines of this new domaine during my tastings in Villefranche organized by Inter Beaujolais, and Hoppenot's first vintages impressed me enough to merit a special mention. If he can maintain this level of quality, importers should find their way to his door.

About the domain :
Grégoire Hoppenot is one to watch. He is one of those winegrowers who, before setting up shop in 2018, enriched his experience at domains Chermette, Maison Trénel and the Cave des Vignerons de Bel-Air. He has built up a top-notch parcel of land among the best vineyards in the area. Gentle whole-cluster vinifications are followed by ageing combining vat and already-used wood, enabling the nuances to be reflected to best effect, but also retaining a digestible, fine character. The 2018s proved promising, and the 2019s are particularly successful. We look forward to discovering the next vintages.
