Pure expression of a pleasantly fruity Gamay. Aromas of jammy fruit and spices delight from the very first nose. Gourmet on the palate, with sublime length. Enjoy it with red meat, lamb chops for example, or for the sweet tooth, try it with a chocolate-raspberry moelleux! This is a Morgon you absolutely must have in your cellar!

Domaine des Nugues
Morgon
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
Gilles Gelin is one of the young generation of Beaujolais winemakers who are producing a large volume of wines of impeccable quality. With the 2016 vintage, we identified an inflection in the style of the wines, more delicate, with a more accomplished aromatic precision. This style is confirmed in 2017. The wines are half-bodied, with just the right balance. Reliable and enjoyable. What more could you ask for?
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Estate rated 3*Stars (very good production)
About the domain :
Son and grandson of a winegrower, Gérard Gelin acquired Clos des Nugues in 1976, before going into partnership with his son Gilles. Located in northern Beaujolais, on the border of the Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie and Morgon crus, the estate now covers almost 30 hectares. The average age of the vines is around 45 years, with some Gamay vines over a century old.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 89/100
Domaine noté (guide 2020) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
In an unglamorous phase, the Morgon is slightly dissociated, but seductive notes of red fruit and English candy can be detected.
About the domain :
At the crossroads of the crus, the Gelin family produces mainly Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages. A few parcels in Morgon (1 hectare) and Fleurie (6 hectares) complete a range that goes from VDF to home-made crème de cassis. The wines resemble their maker, Gilles Gelin: rich in color with fruity tannin, they deliver over time. His white is a metronome chardonnay in Beaujolais-Villages, which he continues to plant on suitable soils. His gamay version demonstrates the excellence of the Lancié terroir when worked with adjusted yields.
