" Favorite for this Beaujolais red wine delivering musky aromas: the 2018 Cuvée Les Michelons from Domaine Mee Godard in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Under a velvety gaze, the woodiness of Moulin-à-Vent Les Michelons' ageing tempts the nose with musky aromas. Its thick body is supported by a vibrant gas that stimulates the taste buds. A cuvée to cellar before serving." (La Revue du Vin de France - 2020)

Domaine Mee Godard
Moulin-à-Vent
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
COMMENTS retirement: 5 hectares in Morgon, on the most beautiful lieux-dits, Corcelettes, Grand Cras and Côte de Py! That was in 2013. Since he set up, Mee Godard has been making progress and building. A hectare of Moulin-à-Vent here, a new building there, and wines that continue to refine. The Godard style is all about pure, never sterile, airy yet structured wines that exude their origins. Add to this a greediness that may have been lacking in his earlier vintages, and you have the keystone of the superb 2017s. It's a shame there's so little of it!

About the domain :
Trained as an oenologist but with no winemaking history, Mee made her dream come true when, in February 2013, she single-handedly took over the plots of an unsuccessful winemaker. Her pocket-sized estate is made up of very old vines in the best Morgon terroirs (Corcelette, Grand Cras, Côte du Py). A moulin-à-vent cuvée was added to the range in 2016. Mee Godard's free-spirited yet well-defined wines are on the rise!

I expected more from a winemaker who has won awards from "le rouge & le blanc" magazine. The nose is marked by stewed prunes and the palate seems to have already passed its peak.

Fraaie, donkere roodpaarse en haast lichtgevende kleur! Aan de neus rijpe kersen, pruimen en bramen. Daarnaast floraal en ook wat stalgeur (animaal) en leren zadel. En ook aardse tonen. In the world heerlijk crispy en sappig braam- en kersenfruit. Enorme fruitexpressie op z'n Mee-Godard's. Signatuur is herkenbaar. Veel vulling, fijne zuren, mooie balans. Alles klopt. Een stevige tanninestructuur die op dit moment voor grip en voor rijpingspotentieel voor later zorgt. Dit wordt echt mooi over 5 à 6 jaar. Score: 17,5+/20
