Bettane & Desseauve

"This is a robust, well-structured wine, made for long ageing. Indeed, it would be a shame to taste it before 4 or 5 years. It's clearly the most masculine, concentrated and structured of the Canon-Fronsac wines. There's a lot of Merlot in this blend. This purple-tinged cuvée has notes of Asian plum sauce, crème de cassis and blackberry liqueur, as well as a hint of pencil sharpness. Fleshy, full-bodied and seriously gifted, this massive Canon-Fronsac needs time to tame. However, it has everything: acidity, tannin, extraction and considerable richness. It's an impressive wine and a revelation of the vintage." (Wine Advocate 2012 - Robert Parker)

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2013 guide) 14.5/20 (Good wine)

Domaine rated (2016 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

A very worldly wine, with notes of chocolate and spices, rich, voluminous and concentrated, with supple, coated tannins.

About the domain :

Situated on a very classic Fronsadais molasse terroir, with its blend of limestone and clay, this small estate sits atop a hillside ("pey" in the local dialect) that gives its name to the cru.

Decanter

Decanter

Rated 16/20

About the wine:

Full-bodied, suave, spicy, even a touch exotic. Loaded with tangy fruit. Strong, but with a round tannic structure.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 15.5/20 (Good wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2016) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

The 2009 proves to be complete, offering power and character on the palate, in a chalky style thanks to its tension on the finish. Drink now.

About the domain :

Originally from northern France, Bénédicte and Grégoire Hubau run Moulin Pey-Labrie in Canon-Fronsac and Haut-Lariveau in Fronsac. These two attractive estates are meticulously crafted, and their quality over the last few vintages has been convincing.
