"Another fine opus from Puygueraud (the cradle of the Thienpont family), the 2011 offers a dense blue/purple color accompanied by abundant aromas of blueberry, blackberry, charcoal, and graphite. Clearly superior to its modest pedigree, this revelation of the vintage has good structure, beautifully pure fruit, and drinkability over a decade." About the estate:

The Thienpont family, owners of the estate since 1946, revived the Côtes de Francs appellation in 1983 with this first-class wine. Nicolas Thienpont, who is also responsible for a premier cru classé in Saint-Emilion, produces a full-bodied, generous wine with well-controlled oakiness, designed for reasonable aging (five to ten years). The estate is consistent and the vintages are of a good standard. In tribute to his father George, Nicolas Thienpont has produced a cuvée bearing his name, marked by Malbec, a grape variety he particularly appreciated. A wine with strong character, not without finesse."
