"A biodynamic cuvée".

Made from 40-year-old vines planted on a sandy-clay terroir and aged in foudres, barrels and amphorae, this Fronsac works wonders. The nose exhales smoky, spicy and stewed fruit notes in a tender, mineral profile. On the palate, the strawberry and raspberry aromas are delicious. Intense fruitiness then reveals a wine with just the right balance, fresh, precise and elegant. Try it with a roast. We love it!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))

About the domain :

Christine and Jean-Yves Millaire run biodynamic vineyards in Canon-Fronsac (7 hectares), Fronsac (2.5 hectares) and Bordeaux. Canon-Fronsac stands out for its tannic structure in the service of the fruit, which is rightly pushed to maturity, without losing its final freshness. Good value for money.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

A cru of consistent quality, created in the 1950s by Jean Garnier, it was farmed out between 1979 and 1998 until the arrival of grandson Jean-Yves Millaire, who took over direct management. The vineyard (30 ha today) is managed organically and biodynamically (certified in 2009 and 2012 respectively).

Rated (guide 2023) 92/100 (Vintage 2019)

Domaine noté (guide 2021) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

Today, with almost 50 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines, Jean-Yves Millaire proves wrong those who still believe that, because you're small, you're necessarily better. The rather forced extractions of the early days ("that was the fashion") have been replaced by infusions. Millaire even managed to release a Beaujolais-style "primeur" in December: Loupiot pure fruit juice, a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot without sulfur, perfect for treasuring... His ageing methods are also moving the lines: mostly foudres, a few amphorae and barrels to best suit the different soil profiles, which are capable of accommodating old, forgotten grape varieties: the winemaker is cultivating massal planting projects for new tastes. In the meantime, his value is judged by his canon-fronsac and fronsac wines, and has earned him a place in this guide.

Favorite Prix-Plaisir for this racy 100% Merlot, beautifully built around fresh, crisp red berries (strawberry, redcurrant, raspberry). Finely structured, the slender, juicy mouthfeel gradually gives way to vibrant, delicate tannins that serve up an unctuous feel around a dapper fruitiness, finishing at length with the return of aromatic intensity and radiant vivacity, bringing freshness and dynamism. Natural vinification and sophisticated ageing mean that this wine can be kept for at least seven years. Great allure and very affordable price. Score of 4.2. In the meantime, its supple, gourmet structure makes it the perfect companion to a parmentier of confit duck from the Landes region, with Port sauce.
