Dame de Respide is a second wine with notes of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry) on the nose, combined with a hint of smoky wood. It is a full-bodied, well-made Graves, offering a beautiful silkiness on the palate, demonstrating excellent mastery in its aging. Best served with a nice piece of red meat or roast poultry...

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2017 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This property belongs to the Médeville family, well known for its famous Château Gilette Sauternes. The vineyard produces a beautiful red Graves wine dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon on 8 hectares, and a very elegant white Graves wine of recognized and consistent quality on half that area.

Rated estate (2017 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

The château, owned by the Médeville family since the 1980s (who also own the Gilette and Les Justices châteaux in Sauternes, the Château des Eyrins in Margaux, and Gonet-Médeville champagnes), is located in Preignac, in the southern Graves region near Langon and Sauternes, and is immaculately maintained. Thanks to a balanced blend of grape varieties, the wines express the complementary virtues of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (slightly predominant) in red, Sauvignon and Sémillon and a small proportion of Muscadelle (up to 5% in the blend depending on the vintage) in white. The latter reveals the true style of the wines of the southern Graves region: unpretentious, with notes of citrus peel and a light palate, aged for a short three months in barrels. The reds have progressed well thanks to the winemaking advice of Olivier Dauga. Julie and Xavier Gonet skillfully manage this estate, which maintains an excellent level and perfect consistency of production.
