"Wonderful: could this be the best vintage in years?"
"Château La Lagune 2019 offers exquisite transparency on the nose - one of the most expressive wines of the vintage from this terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, taut and fresh, quite saline with a very integrated, balanced finish that lingers on the palate. Wonderful: could this be the best Château La Lagune in years" (Vinous 2023) - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Château La Lagune
Haut-Médoc
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
La Lagune has not been rewarded by the weather in recent vintages for its courageous organic viticulture. Under the watchful eye of its administrator, Caroline Frey, the wine has made good progress in recent years, with blends featuring a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and more elegant tannin extractions. It's getting better all the time.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (guide 2023) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
With its beautiful, hesitant ruby color, this wine expresses itself fully on the nose with aromas of black fruit and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied, suave, dense and powerful, firmly anchored by firm, yet fine-grained tannins that leave no doubt as to the serious potential of this bottle. 2026 - 2032
About the domain :
The first classified growth encountered by visitors arriving from Bordeaux along the Médoc wine route, this château was bought in 2000 by Jean-Jacques Frey, a businessman who already owned prestigious houses in Champagne and the Rhône Valley. A long-established name, La Lagune combines an elegant 18th-century Carthusian monastery, superb cellars, a vast vineyard (110 ha, including 75 ha for the grand vin) and a choice terroir of fine sandy gravel. All these assets are enhanced by a dynamic team led by Caroline Frey, daughter of the owner and the estate's nologue since 2004. The estate has been certified organic since the 2016 vintage.

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
With its aromas of cherry, wild berry and blackcurrant, mingled with notes of dark chocolate, pencil lead and violet. Château La Lagune 2019 is medium to full-bodied, ample and sensual, its fruity core framed by polished tannins and succulent acidity. In its elegant, generous style, it recalls a modern version of the brilliant 1990. 2025-2055

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Located at the entrance to the Médoc, this cru imposes its characteristic style, always expressing great finesse and elegance. Under the guidance of Caroline Frey since 2004, the cru has produced a series of excellent vintages, placing it at the very top of its appellation. It has to be said that the château holds all the cards to triumph: a very interesting, homogeneous terroir, and state-of-the-art winemaking equipment. A sure bet, but one that has nevertheless been painfully affected by the vagaries of the weather in recent vintages.

James Suckling
Rated wine (guide 2022) 95/100
About the wine:
The nose has many notes of chocolate, tobacco and blackcurrant. Full-bodied, with chewy, polished, present tannins. Long and intense. This wine is rather tight and pinched on the palate. It needs time to soften. Very structured. Made from organic grapes. Best after 2025.

Rated area (2020 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
A voluptuous nose of blackberry, autumn plum and fresh coffee. Very pure and mellow on the palate, it reveals a beautiful bitterness, for a wine balanced on fruit and acidity. Light at first, it gains in textural power from the chalky character of its tannins.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (guide 2021) 94/100
About the wine:
Château La Lagune's bouquet is distinguished by its complexity and subtlety. It reveals precise nuances of dark berry, pepper and licorice aromas. On the palate, the attack is surprisingly dense. The wine is not opulent, but full-bodied and powerful, with a juicy, lively structure, while the tannins gradually reveal themselves. They surprise with their imposing but not overpowering nature on the finish. I think Château La Lagune 2019 has all the elements needed to spend time in the cellar, while still being approachable in its youth. Persistent fruity finish. A great success. 2025-2044
The Wine Cellar Insider - Jeff Leve
Wine rated (guide 2022) 94/100
About the wine:
Roses and lilacs, as well as ripe, sweet cherries, are present in the perfume. Medium-bodied, soft, silky, fresh and focused on its purity and refined nature, the wine drinks effortlessly, finishing with layers of polished red fruits, touches of cocoa and a hint of savory spices and herbs. This wine will rival the best vintages Château La Lagune has ever produced, and should age for decades. Drink between 2024 and 2042.
