Montagne-Saint-Emilion
Montagne Saint Emilion is a distinguished red wine. It has very seductive attributes.
Montagne Saint Emilion wine has a ruby-red color with various dark nuances.
The distinguished character of mountain-saint-émilion eau-de-vie is confirmed by its aromas. In fact, when you open the bottle, you'll smell aromas of red fruit, cherry, undergrowth, bell pepper, blackberry, prune, blackcurrant and licorice. It's even possible to distinguish surprising candied fruit scents, such as the roasted coffee and chocolate notes inherited from ageing in oak.
This is a racy, elegant, well-structured, warm, generous and ample wine, just like Château La Chapelle or Château Gachon.

If you think these are the only flavors you'll experience with montagne saint Émilion, think again. As you progress, you'll be caught off guard by its powerful, ripe tannins. The end notes are also distinguished by their freshness, fruity accentuation and persistence. You've probably guessed it. Saint Emilion mountain wine is a vintage you absolutely must try.

The origin of Montagne Saint Emilion wine

Roman monuments and remains bear witness to Saint-Emilion's rich past and ancient viticulture. The barbarian invasions put winegrowing on the back burner, and it wasn't until the Middle Ages that winegrowing flourished again. The vineyards of Montagne-Saint-Émilion have had an appellation d'origine contrôlée since a decree dated November 14, 1936. The Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation covers the commune of Montagne and the hamlets of Parsac and Saint-Georges. The 1,450 hectares of vines in the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation produce nearly 70,000 hectolitres of wine a year.

To the north and northeast of the Saint-Emilion hillside, the territory of Montagne-Saint-Emilion wines is mainly composed of limestone or clay-limestone soil. However, some areas are gravelly or sandy. The whole is underlain by a thick, porous layer of asteriated limestone (crustacean microfossils dating back to the Secondary Era). During summer droughts, this limestone supplies the soil with water by capillary action. The vineyards of Montagne-Saint-Émilion benefit from a temperate oceanic climate, with regular rainfall and plenty of summer sunshine and heat. The "Indian summers" ensure that the grapes ripen well.

Montagne-Saint-Emilion wines are mainly blended from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which account for 60% and 30% of grape varieties respectively. Montagne-Saint-Emilion wines have intense aromas of red fruit, undergrowth and cherry, as well as bell pepper, blackberry and licorice. On the palate, they are full-bodied, warm and well-balanced. These are powerful, racy, generous wines, always distinguished, like Château Gachon or Château La Chapelle.

How is Saint Emilion mountain wine made?

Mont Saint Emilion is the flagship wine of this French commune. It is grown on limestone or clay-limestone soils. In dry periods, the limestone supplies the soil with water by capillary action. The rest of the time, Montagne-Saint-Émilionne vines benefit from a temperate oceanic climate with regular rainfall and optimal sunshine.

This favors good grape ripening. As a general rule, mountain-saint-emilion wines are blended from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which account for 60% and 30% of the grape varieties respectively. The beverage is then naturally aged until it has the consistency, aromas and flavors to delight all the senses.

2*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"The fruit of cellar work (long vatting, micro-oxygenation) aimed at thorough extraction, this beautifully dark purple wine is intense from the moment of olfaction, with a strong presence of red and black fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry) on a discreet woody background. A full, compact attack, carried by firm, tight tannins, is followed by a softer, more supple mid-palate, the signature of a Merlot that has reached great maturity". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015)

Owners of Château Franc Maillet in Pomerol, Gaël and Gérard Arpin also oversee the destiny of Château Gachon, which produces this Cuvée Les Petits Rangas, named after a parcel facing South/South-East and sitting on a predominantly silico-clay terroir. A very pleasant, charming wine, with a beautiful, concentrated body that expresses itself with finesse. A beautifully crafted bottle!
