This cru is made from several parcels spread throughout the appellation. One, in the Grand Puy area, gives it its name and produces the most racy part of the blend, which has progressed well under the guidance of the highly competent Anne Le Naour. There are still a few avenues for improvement, which will be made possible by the imminent construction of a new vat room, enabling precise parcel selections and even more meticulous ageing.

About the wine:

Dark and dense, the wine's color leaves no one indifferent, announcing a serious, deep wine. On the nose, black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant liqueur) mingle with roasted, spicy and finely mentholated notes. A palette as broad as it is intense, infusing an imposing, full-bodied, powerful, very long palate with tight tannins. A (very) great Pauillac for laying down. 2028-2040

About the domain :

Established mainly in the 18th century by the lawyer Arnaud Ducasse, the estate took its present name in 1932. The château overlooking the Gironde dates back to 1820. Three large parcels of gravel make up this 40-hectare cru, owned by CA Grands Crus (Crédit Agricole Group) since 2004.

Like Meyney, Grand-Puy Ducasse is owned by a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole (CA Grands Crus). If we were a little disappointed by some of the vintages from the early 2000s, clearly below the level of a good cru classé, things are changing: the estate's stated ambition is to produce a wine worthy of its rank. Anne Le Naour, who manages the vineyard and supervises vinification, is gradually bringing the refinement that was often lacking to the estate. Since 2015, progress has been steady.

Grand Puy Ducasse 2020 is elegant, refined and sophisticated, just as it was en primeur. Black cherry, mocha, licorice and crushed rose petals are just some of the many notes that open up. Medium-bodied, with tremendous energy and class, Grand Puy Ducasse is very pretty and particularly refined in 2020. 2030-2050

A transparent, limpid young Pauillac with aromas of blackcurrant, mushroom, chocolate and damp earth. Full-bodied, layered and savory, with fine, velvety tannins. Lots of graphite and blue fruit on the finish. Drink after 2027.

True to its discreet approach, the nose nevertheless announces depth and a certain greediness. Velvety attack and palate, incredible balance between fruit, root and spice aromas. Great, slender tannins, capturing the taste buds on the finish. An iron fist in a velvet glove, a great wine.

The nose is fresh and offers harmonious power, intensity, fine grain, a fine compact/discreetly tight side and complexity. There are notes of pulpy wild blackberry, fairly ripe wild strawberry and, more lightly, ripe black berries, combined with hints of violet, cherry/cherry and nutmeg, as well as hints of sweet spices, black tea and toast. Fruity on the palate, with juiciness, minerality, freshness and tension, as well as richness (under control), deliciousness and a lovely tannic structure. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, fleshy/juicy strawberry and, more lightly, violet, combined with touches of fresh/pulpey red berries, as well as hints of cardamom, graphite, dark chocolate, toastiness/caramelization, discreet hints of blond tobacco (in the background), a subtle hint of tea and toasted hazelnut. Intense purple color with violet highlights and a black core. Opulent, rich nose with multi-layered character. Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and juicy blackcurrant, with black cherry and sloe in the background. Distinct aromas of roast, mocha and cold smoke, with a hint of graphite in the background. On the palate, the wine is well structured, with excellent length and depth, ripe tannins, juicy fruit and discreet spices. The aftertaste is marked by roasting.
