Domaine Guffens-Heynen
After Jean-Marie had studied viticulture and Maine had worked for the village winegrowers, they became managers of a small estate in the Mâconnais region and learned to work the vines. In 1979, they acquired a few plots of vines on the heights of Pierreclos. Enthusiastic, but novices, they made up for their lack of experience with an almost instinctive approach to vines and wine. An outstanding winemaker and breeder, Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen delivers rare vintages of widely acclaimed elegance and uncommon consistency.
This talented duo is also involved in the destiny of Maison Verget, a small trading house in the heart of the Mâcon region, which is equally successful, so much so that its wines demonstrate elegance and finesse, and know how to convey, more than any other, expressions that are as close to the terroir as possible.

"The 2018 Mâcon-Pierreclos Tri de Chavigne reveals itself brilliantly, relaxing in the glass with notes of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, blanched almonds, white flowers and nutmeg. Medium- to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's strikingly intense, with an elegant textural attack and racy acidity. Still tightly wound after its recent bottling, this wine has a long and glorious future ahead of it. This cuvée was made from three harvests spread over 12 days at the high-altitude farms of Guffens au Chavigne, and aged in barrels, of which around 30% were new." All the estate's 2009s are of the highest quality. The vintage is rich and ripe, without resembling 2003. The wines have sufficient acidity to express their minerality. Without exoticism, they are fat and long, and only need time to express themselves. This Bourgogne "Jeunes Vignes et Derniers Jus " comes from a young Saint-Véran vineyard and the Chavigne presses, aged half in barrels and half in vats. A delicious wine!

New name for the cuvée "En Crazy" (taken from a nickname Robert Parker gave Jean-Marie Guffens: Crazy Belgium) and a change of appellation for this blend of juices mainly from the young vines of "Chavigne": first pressed juices and the end of presses from "Tris des Hauts de Chavigne", to which we added the harvest of a parcel of Saint Veran in 2008. A very rich wine with good acidity and a long finish. A great cuvée!
