"The tannin grain is greedy, fine, the juice is quite dense, generous and greedy. If it starts out opulent, it finishes fresh and minty". (Le Guide Bettane + Desseauve). A Marsannay draped in a garnet-red robe evoking violet, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas on the nose, accompanied by hints of prune. A rich red with a lovely roundness on the palate.

Domain Huguenot
Marsannay
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 91/ 100
Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
The grain of tannin is greedy and fine, the juice is fairly dense, generous and greedy. If it starts out opulent, it finishes fresh and minty.
About the domain :
Philippe Huguenot is a pragmatist. Certified organic since 2013, he initiated this approach to enable his vines to regain the good rusticity he was no longer finding. Mechanical harvesting has also been abandoned. This estate is moving forward, and its wines are increasingly elegant, with a pleasant fruitiness that seduces from their earliest youth. The acceleration in quality has been spectacular over the last few vintages. A man of rare kindness, with wines that reflect his image, he likes to welcome his customers to the cellar when many have closed their doors in the face of commercial success. The quality here is particularly consistent.

About the domain :
Since 1790, ten generations have succeeded one another on this 21-hectare estate, renowned for its Marsannay, Gevrey and Fixin wines. Philippe Huguenot took over from his father Jean-Louis in 1996 and launched the organic conversion of his vineyard (certification in 2013).

Domain rated (guide 2023) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
Svelte, taut juice in the Marsannay Montagne, with profiled, precise flavors, but still backed by a strict woodiness that compresses the finish.
About the domain :
Heir to ten generations of Marsannay winemakers, Jean-Louis Huguenot, who died in 2019, produced technically irreproachable wines for a long time. More discreet, his son Philippe and his wife Valérie have given their wines more personality, without compromising their fundamental qualities. The range as a whole includes precise, solid wines, which have been certified organic since 2019, but over-ageing diminishes the nuances of terroir expression with dry finishes. We hope that Philippe Huguenot, now fully in charge, will change this style. Major renovation work on the winery and buildings is currently underway.
