Appellation d'origine contrôlée Marsannay is a communal appellation of the Côte de Nuits (containing the wines côte de Nuits-villages and Hautes côte de Nuits), in the Côte-d'Or region. In the foothills of the city of Dijon lies the Côte de Nuits vineyard, home to the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée. Marsannay. The appellation, under its Village name, presents Marsannay rosés and Marsannay whites. Red winemaking produces tannic wines with an intense color, a nose of undergrowth for aged wines and a harmonious structure on the palate thanks to their pinot noir grape varieties. The Burgundy hillsides on which the appellation grows Marsannay benefit from a cool oceanic climate, bathed in southern and continental influences. Even though temperatures are quite low and mild, the vineyards of Marsannay is protected by the Morvan massif and the great plateaus of the Burgundy region. The soil of the coombes on which the vineyards are planted is rich in limestone, marl and sediment. Thanks to the diversity of soil, altitude, air movement, sun exposure and slope, each vineyard has a unique character. Visit Château de MarsannayLocated in the commune of the same name, Marsannay boasts vineyards in Burgundy's main and most prestigious terroirs, including Gevrey Chambertin, Echezeaux, Clos de Vougeot, Champeaux and Vosne Romanée en Orveaux. The domaine also offers wines in all three colors from vineyards around the estate and in the Marsannay appellation, such as the Marsannay blanc Champs Perdrix, one of the highest climats, or lieux-dits, in the Côte de Nuits. Le Marsannay rosé or a Château Marsannay Clos du Roy, which has a taut, mineral flavor.
