Pouilly-Vinzelles
The Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation d'origine contrôlée is a village appellation in the Mâconnais region of Saône-et-Loire, delimited in 1931 and recognized in 1940, which may be followed by a climat name, a lieu-dit designating a particular terroir. The Pouilly-Vinzelles AOC production area covers the communes of Vinzelles and Loché.

Neighboring the Solutré archaeological complex, the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation rests on the same Jurassic rocks (Bathonian and Bajocian) that crown the Mâconnais mountains. The soils, which differ mainly according to the relief between the top and bottom of the hill, are predominantly iron-colored clay-limestone. The average altitude (200 to 250 meters) and eastern exposure are perfectly suited to Chardonnay in this continental, rather southern climate, enabling early harvests and producing rich, powerful musts. Pouilly-Vinzelles is vinified by young, ambitious winemakers using the best traditional methods.

Pouilly-Vinzelles are white wines made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. Their aromas are fruity and lemony. After 3 to 5 years in bottle, they acquire power and roundness. Domaine de la Soufrandière - Bret Brothers has become a key player in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation.

"A wine of great pleasure!"

"The Pouilly-Vinzelles 2021 has a taut, fresh nose, tinged with petrichor, with notes of pressed flowers, a little more power compared to Drouhin's Mâcon-Lugny. The palate is very well balanced, not too complex, but concentrated with a taut, mineral finish. Excellent. " (Vinous 2023)

"One of Vinzelles' finest terroirs, combining breadth and vivacity".

A top-flight white, very complete and with incredible length! The vines grow on the plot known as "Les Longeays" on very rich clay soils, which explains the advance in maturity each year. A cuvée to drink now or forget about in the cellar!

The "Les Quarts" climat expresses itself in a lemony, mineral Chardonnay of remarkable complexity and length. The combination of old vines and exceptional terroir make this a cuvée for laying down. A great Pouilly-Vinzelles!

Les Longeays is one of the appellation's three most interesting Climats: a south-east-facing plot in the middle of the hillside, but on deeper soils. This characteristic explains the almost systematic advance in ripeness every year, and the fact that this cuvée is more a wine of fruit than minerality. An immediate pleasure!
