Domaine de la Soufrandière
Domaine de la Soufrandière, a former estate in Vinzelles in the southern Mâconnais region, was acquired in 1947 by A.J. Bret. At the time, Domaine de la Soufrandière had only one hectare of vines, planted with AOC Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat "Les Quarts". A.J. Bret undertook the expansion of the vineyard, which was continued by Jean-Paul Bret, the third of A.J. and Louise Bret's four children.

Since 2000, Domaine de la Soufrandière has been run four-handed by Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe Bret, a talented duo who favor a culture as close to nature as possible. Both at La Soufrandière, where the vineyard is certified organic by ECOCERT, and in their trading business (Bret Brothers), they work in partnership with passionate winemakers who are in tune with their terroir. The exceptional exposure of the oldest Chardonnay vines on the south-east-facing slope, and the living clay-limestone soil rich in siliceous crystals, give rise to Domaine de la Soufrandière's unique "Les Quarts" climat cuvée.

"One of Vinzelles' finest terroirs, combining breadth and vivacity".

A top-flight white, very complete and with incredible length! The vines grow on the plot known as "Les Longeays" on very rich clay soils, which explains the advance in maturity each year. A cuvée to drink now or forget about in the cellar!

"A crisp, clean vintage with a lively appeal".

A juicy, concentrated, saline wine with citrus bitters. A wine of great relief, from a 2-hectare plot in a single block, with a view of Mont Blanc on fine days. This Saint-Véran perfectly represents the characteristics of its terroir through its liveliness.

"The 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé Au Vignerais also shows well, unfolding in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, pear and fresh peach. Dense, satiny and enveloping, it's elegant and precise, while remaining beautifully balanced. This south-facing climat was harvested on August 29." (Wine Advocate 2020) The precision and complexity of this wine can make it surpass some 1er crus!

"North-facing hillside vines, 70% vinified in vats. Evokes a sea breeze, fresh air, saline, sappy, crisp white fruit on the finish. It's a hallmark of the house style. (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve) This wine, named "Desroches" in a nod to the former owners, expresses notes of citrus and exotic fruit, with a delicate roundness brought out by the barrel ageing of part of the vintage.

"Aromas of blanched almonds, custard, lemon zest, green apples and white flowers introduce the 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé En Châtenay, a medium-bodied, full-bodied and textured wine incisive and acidic, combining high ripeness with pronounced acidity in a way that eerily recalls the 1996 Burgundy white vintage - a year that apparently has little in common with 2017. This is a high-end number, and its evolution will be interesting to follow." (Wine Advocate 2019 - William Kelley) All the genius of Bret Borthers is in this bottle!

The "Les Quarts" climat expresses itself in a lemony, mineral Chardonnay of remarkable complexity and length. The combination of old vines and exceptional terroir make this a cuvée for laying down. A great Pouilly-Vinzelles!

Les Longeays is one of the appellation's three most interesting Climats: a south-east-facing plot in the middle of the hillside, but on deeper soils. This characteristic explains the almost systematic advance in ripeness every year, and the fact that this cuvée is more a wine of fruit than minerality. An immediate pleasure!

The Bret brothers produce this cuvée on a magnificent terroir: the sloping (25%), south-facing Leynes hillside. Produced from old Gamay vines with small berries (40 to 60 years old), it offers plenty of fruit. A magnificent Beaujolais, shaped to perfection. Enjoy it now!
