Bodegas Canopy
Bodegas Canopy was born in 2003, the brainchild of two oenologists, Alfonso Chacon and Belarmino Fernández. In the Sierra de San Vicente, south of Toledo, at an altitude of 750 meters, they gradually bought up 19 parcels, mainly of old Grenache vines. Mentrida appellation. Deserted by winegrowers preferring to plant international grape varieties in the plains, these plots were destined to be uprooted. This unique terroir, with its cool, aroma-fixing climate, sandy soils resting on a granite bedrock and scattered plots separated by juniper forests and wild fig trees, has been restored to its former glory. The tandem also owns modern plantations of Syrah and plots of schist with steep slopes that bring a beautiful biodiversity to the estate. Bodegas Canopy
Alfonso and Belarmino are committed to producing organic and biodynamic wines on their 19 hectares, expressing their terroir and grape varieties with a minimum of intervention in both vineyard and cellar.

"The accessible Grenache 2017 Castillo de Belarfonso has been made from grapes from the village of Real de San Vicente, one of the villages in the Sierra de Gredos within the Méntrida appellation. It has a brilliant ruby color and a sparkling nose with intense aromas of red fruits and spices. It's an excellent introduction to the wines of Gredos. I really liked it, it overcomes the effect of the warm vintage and offers good freshness." A magnificent, fresh Grenache!

"Congo 2015 is a selection of the best Grenache bunches from an old vineyard in the village of Real de San Vicente, on granite soils, from the same plants as one of the vineyards that produce Tres Patas. Only the 2007 and 2009 vintages had previously been produced, as the grape-by-grape harvest was too tedious. This wine was aged in French oak foudre (the equivalent of ten Burgundy barrels, or 2,280 liters) for 18 to 20 months. It reveals notes of sweet fruit and the austerity of granite soils. A wine to be left to age for it to blossom further." (Wine Advocate 2017 - Robert Parker) An exceptional Grenache!

Bodegas Canopy - Loco 2015

"The new vintage wasn't out yet so I re-tasted Loco blanc 2015 to check its evolution in bottle. It's becoming very balsamic, with notes of camphor and laurel, this wine is clearly Mediterranean, with some mineral notes reminiscent of Riesling, while retaining the varietal signature. It should continue to improve in bottle." (Wine Advocate 2018 - Robert Parker) A wine that lives up to its name! A crazy gamble to make the only 100% Grenache blanc cuvée in central Spain. A unique and unmissable cuvée! (Supplied with fabric cover)
