"100% Savagnin, truly representative of its terroir"

The Côtes du Jura Savagnier 2022 is an ouillé Savagnin from vines planted in the Savagnier area of the village of Lavigny on marly soils in the 1990s. It was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged exclusively in stainless steel for 10 months. It is fresh and varietal, with 13.5% alcohol. It has pure aromas and is stony and slightly reductive, with a hint of flint, nicely textured with a fine thread, integrated acidity, and a dry, chalky finish. 6,000 bottles were filled in July 2023. Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The estate overlooks Château-Chalon, perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 450 meters. Jean has passed the baton to his daughter Hélène, who came to take over after a first career as a translator in Brussels, and ensure the smooth running of the 15 hectares. Certified organic since 2013, the wines are among the vineyard's successes, particularly the voile wines, which are the estate's great specialty. The yellow wines (4.5 hectares in Château-Chalon) are aged in magnificent vaulted cellars.

About the estate:

Established in 1985 by Jean Berthet-Bondet, former mayor of Château-Chalon and agricultural engineer, as is his wife. Cultivated according to organic farming principles, the 13 hectares of vineyards and vaulted cellars have been managed by their daughter Hélène since 2018.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet, both agricultural engineers, left the city in 1985 to create this 11-hectare estate, located equally in the Château-Chalon and Côtes du Jura appellations, and certified organic since 2013. Jean's daughter Hélène is now at the helm. The quality is improving in terms of expression and purity of fruit. New vintages and labels for ouillé wines have been cleverly redefined, although the vintages aged under veil remain the undisputed stars of the estate, with a Château-Chalon that could serve as a model for the prestigious appellation.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 89/100

About wine:

The Côtes du Jura Savagnier 2022 takes its name from a dedicated vineyard plot. Aged for a year in stainless steel tanks, the 2022 has reductive notes, wet stone, and lemon flesh. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the vintage's maturity is carefully balanced by the Savagnier's sharp acidity. A salty finish rounds out the whole.
