"A precise, easy-drinking vintage with a beautiful character."

The traditional cuvée aims to preserve authenticity and the pleasure of fruit. These ripe black fruit aromas compose a beautiful palette with hints of tapenade and smoke. The palate presents a very precise Faugères, with beautiful balance. This enjoyable wine offers plenty of freshness and drinkability!

Rated estate Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more wines from its production, without us being able to give an overall opinion on the style of the entire range)

About the estate:

A man of strong convictions, Didier Barral is one of those who has given the most thought to soil cultivation, having been on the estate since the early 1990s. The 33-hectare vineyard is located on schistose hillsides and slopes sheltered by the foothills of the Cévennes. Didier Barral has reintroduced black pigs and 70 cows (which graze in his vineyards from October to April) and has greatly encouraged mixed farming to encourage different species of fauna and flora to coexist. The soil is not plowed to allow animal life to develop. The philosophy behind the wines is similar to that of so-called natural wines, with low sulfur protection at bottling. There may have been some deviations in certain wines, but at their best, his Faugères wines are unparalleled. Shouldn't we accept a few small flaws in the girl we love, Didier explains? The estate did not send us any samples this year, so we will review it again next year.

Wine rating (2024 guide) 91/100 (2019 vintage)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

The exceptional schist terroir of the Léon Barral estate plunges into the hillsides of the hamlet of Lentheric. The vineyard is revitalized with cultivation practices that promote interactions between the animal and plant kingdoms, using plant cover, organic matter, and natural fertilizers provided by herds grazing between the rows of vines. These practices have advanced viticulture throughout the Languedoc region and enabled Didier Barral to position the estate among the most desirable in the region. The very free style of the wines appeals to a large number of enthusiasts and wine merchants (no sales to individuals are made at the estate), leaving others perplexed.
