Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Stéphane Sérol leads his domaine along the path of excellence. The 34 hectares of vineyards highlight the Gamay grape variety, which expresses itself to the full on granite and porphyry soils. Backed by precise biodynamic viticulture, this estate stands out for its meticulously hand-harvested wines. The different crus offer freshness of constitution and gourmandise, in particular the cuvée les-millerands, which is well worth waiting for in the cellar. A reliable address for great pleasure wines.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2025) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
In 1998, Stéphane Sérol took over this 37-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic), whose origins date back to 1700, and which his father Robert made famous in 1971 with direct sales in bottles. A (very) safe bet on the Côte Roannaise.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated 89/100 (Vintage 2022)
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Carine and Stéphane Sérol have never made Gamay Saint-Romain and Côte Roannaise shine so brightly. On their sandy and granite terroirs at altitude (380 to 520 meters), the reds draw a delicately smoky, floral and airy expression from the grape variety. From vines planted at high density (8,000 to 10,000 vines/ha), the grapes are partially or totally destemmed before being gently vinified. Progress over the last ten years has been meteoric, and the wines have never reflected the identity of their terroirs so well. Note the extra refinement in the whites.
