Château de la Roulerie - Coteaux du Layon 2008
Harvested by hand with three successive selections, the Chenin grapes used to produce this 2008 Coteaux du Layon benefited from noble rot, resulting in a typical sweet wine that combines ripe, compote-like fruit and citrus peel with exotic woods and tobacco. The palate expresses exotic fruits with a lively and elegant mineral touch and superb freshness. A Layon of rare elegance!

Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, consistent with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Philippe Germain—brother of Thierry Germain, from the Roches Neuves estate in Saumur-Champigny—also works with Chenin, on schist terroirs! He cultivates 37 hectares organically (out of a total of 43), in a magnificent setting, with the château overlooking the Saint-Aubin valley. Finer pressing, slightly less ripeness at harvest for the whites, and less sulfur in the winemaking process were the adjustments that greatly improved the estate, which became part of the Germain family in 1996. Philippe took over the reins in 2004 with the firm intention of raising it to the highest level. From 2010 onwards, the turning point became apparent and the wines gained in depth and brilliance. This is a reliable address, driven by care and hard work. Well done!

About the estate:
Managed by Philippe and Marie Germain since 2004, Ch. de la Roulerie owes its prestige to its sweet wines produced in the commune of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné. The same rigor is applied to the vinification of red wines. The vineyard, which is organically farmed, covers 40 hectares.
