"Cuvée identitaire des Côtes du Forez" (Côtes du Forez identity wine)
On a soil of volcanic rock, the vines of Mémoire de Madone represent a parcel of local Gamay grapes nearly 50 years old. At first, this amateur's wine is surprising for its structure, which is a little tight when young, but will soften with age. On the palate, tangy, vegetal notes emerge, supported by good volume. A truly terroir-driven cuvée, original and profound, to be cellared for some time.

About the wine:
This "gamay sur volcan" pays homage to the Madonna installed in 1872 by the winegrowers on the summit of the volcano overlooking the village to protect them from the terrible phylloxera. This wine, made from vines over 50 years old and aged in sandstone amphorae, seems to have benefited from these good vibrations. In the glass, intense aromas of black fruit, light pepper, resin and, more surprisingly, garrigue. On the palate, substance, richness, depth, silky tannins and a fine final tension. It ticks all the boxes and is far from having said its last word.
About the domain :
Gilles Bonnefoy created his estate from scratch in 1997, planting vines from 2001 to 2016 and setting up the winery in 2004. Today, a 10.5-hectare biodynamic estate, set on the outskirts of 2 volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Les Vins de la Madone is one of the most exciting experiences in Côtes du Forez, a discreet appellation located between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez natural park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d'Urfé), a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This radiance, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic vineyard management (certified in 2008) and vinification partly in whole bunches, with ageing exclusively in vats. The star of this domaine is firmly set.
