From these 60-year-old plots, the very first to be worked by Marcel Richaud in the 70s, comes this Côte du Rhône red with a crisp, gourmet character. On the nose and palate, jammy red fruits dominate, with hints of garrigue and spices. Supple and pleasant on the palate, with a peppery finish. Pair with everyday dishes, aperitifs, cheeses and charcuterie. A real treat!

Côtes du Rhône
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Certain winegrowers alone can evoke an entire appellation, and the charismatic Marcel Richaud is one of them. He was undoubtedly instrumental in establishing the reputation of the latest Côtes du Rhône Sud crus. A visionary and pioneer of parcel-based winegrowing, he still dreams of a Burgundy-style climat classification, and with 45 vintages under his belt, he is as hands-off as possible in the cellar and in the vineyard. Like a certain Emmanuel Reynaud, he accompanies his grapes to optimum ripeness, producing wines that are both gourmand and elegant, a real signature. All the wines tasted this year are highly commendable and remarkably consistent. The young generation who joined the family business a few years ago are determined to perpetuate the house's know-how. Nevertheless, as if to mark a turning point, Claire and Thomas have acquired an additional 20 hectares, half of which adjoins the famous Ebrescades parcel, auguring lovely surprises to come. Most recently, Edith, the youngest daughter, gave in to the siren call of the vines; after a brilliant Parisian career in the luxury sector, she finally settled in the charming little village of Cairanne, bringing an additional asset to the beautiful Richaud tribe.

Rated (guide 2022) 92/100 (Vintage 2019)
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs).
About the domain :
There are very few winemakers in France as demanding and complete, from vine to cellar, as Marcel Richaud. He has reached the pinnacle of his art now that he has a winery and ageing facility to match his ambitions. For the wine lover, this producer's work is a blessing. His entire range reaches a remarkable level and is immediately seductive. Year after year, the wines gain in finesse and precision, while respecting their southern balance and maturity.

3.7. Red fruit on the nose, superb balance of fruit and spices on the palate. Slightly less loaded than the 2019, this is a good entry with the Richaud touch.

The material is very nice, but the alcohol is far too present, especially on the finish. 15.5%!

I'm always amazed by the quality and modernity of Domaine RICHAUD wines. This remarkable entry-level wine is a perfect illustration. It's easy-drinking, rich and opulent. Flavors of mirtouli, raspberry and blackberry, underpinned by round, velvety tannins, fill the full, fleshy mouth. A little acidity adds a touch of tone and rusticity. The finish is long and lingering, enhanced by fresh spices and herbaceous notes. Excellent R. Q/P. Very pleasant to drink despite its unsuspected 15.5°, at 16° with a Japanese gyudon.
