This Côte du Rhône red wine, with its crisp, delicious character, is produced on these 60-year-old plots, the very first to be cultivated by Marcel Richaud in the 1970s. On the nose and palate, jammy red fruits dominate with hints of garrigue and spices. Supple and pleasant on the palate, it delivers a peppery finish. Perfect with everyday meals, appetizers, cheese, and charcuterie. A real treat!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Some winemakers single-handedly embody an entire appellation, and the charismatic Marcel Richaud is one of them. He has undoubtedly contributed to giving prestige to the newest of the southern Côtes du Rhône wines. A visionary and pioneer of parcel-based viticulture, he still dreams of a classification similar to that of Burgundy's climats. With 45 vintages under his belt, he strives to be as non-interventionist as possible in the cellar and in the vineyard. Like Emmanuel Reynaud, he allows his grapes to reach optimal maturity, producing wines that are both delicious and elegant, with a distinctive style. All of the wines tasted this year received the highest ratings, proving to be highly recommendable and of absolutely remarkable consistency. The younger generation, who joined the family business a few years ago, is determined to perpetuate the house's expertise. However, as if to mark a turning point, Claire and Thomas have acquired an additional 20 hectares, half of which adjoins the famous Ebrescades plot, promising some pleasant surprises in the future. Most recently, Edith, the youngest of the family, has succumbed to the siren call of the vineyards. After a brilliant career in Paris in the luxury sector, she has finally settled in the charming little village of Cairanne, bringing a significant additional asset to the wonderful Richaud family.

About the estate:
There are very few winemakers in France who are as demanding and comprehensive, from the vineyard to the cellar, as Marcel Richaud. He has reached the pinnacle of his art since acquiring a winemaking and aging cellar that matches his ambitions. For wine lovers, this producer's work is a blessing. His entire range is of remarkable quality and immediately appealing. Year after year, the wines gain in finesse and precision, while respecting the balance and maturity of the south.

3.7. Red fruit on the nose, superb balance of fruit and spice on the palate. Slightly less intense than the 2019, this is a good introduction to the Richaud style.

The substance is very good, but the alcohol is far too prominent, especially in the finish. 15.5%!

The quality and modernity of the wines produced by the RICHAUD estate never cease to amaze me. This remarkable entry-level wine is a perfect example. It is smooth, rich, and opulent. Flavors of blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry, supported by round and velvety tannins, coat the palate, which is full-bodied and fleshy. A touch of acidity adds a hint of liveliness and rusticity. The finish is long and persistent, enhanced by fresh spices and herbaceous notes. Excellent value for money. Very pleasant to drink despite its unexpected 15.5% alcohol content, at 16% with a Japanese gyudon.
