"Voted best red wine by experts from 60 Million Consumers"
A sunny Côtes-du-Rhône produced by Claire and Thomas, Marcel Richaud's children, from grapes selected from the new terroirs acquired by the RICHAUD family. After five years of careful cultivation, the young Grenache vines replanted in 2017 bring a lovely fruitiness. They have been blended with old Carignan for concentration and a little Syrah for spice. With its lovely fruitiness and beautiful roundness, this traditional cuvée showcases the southern Côtes-du-Rhône.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Some winemakers single-handedly embody an entire appellation, and the charismatic Marcel Richaud is one of them. He has undoubtedly contributed to giving prestige to the newest of the southern Côtes du Rhône wines. A visionary and pioneer of parcel-based viticulture, he still dreams of a classification similar to that of Burgundy's climats. With 45 vintages under his belt, he strives to be as non-interventionist as possible in the cellar and in the vineyard. Like Emmanuel Reynaud, he allows his grapes to reach optimal maturity, producing wines that are both delicious and elegant, with a distinctive style. All of the wines tasted this year received the highest ratings, proving to be highly recommendable and of absolutely remarkable consistency. The younger generation, who joined the family business a few years ago, is determined to perpetuate the house's expertise. However, as if to mark a turning point, Claire and Thomas have acquired an additional 20 hectares, half of which adjoins the famous Ebrescades plot, promising some pleasant surprises in the future. Most recently, Edith, the youngest of the family, has succumbed to the siren call of the vineyards. After a brilliant career in Paris in the luxury sector, she has finally settled in the charming little village of Cairanne, bringing a significant additional asset to the wonderful Richaud family.

About the estate:
There are very few winemakers in France who are as demanding and comprehensive, from the vineyard to the cellar, as Marcel Richaud. He has reached the pinnacle of his art since acquiring a winemaking and aging cellar that matches his ambitions. For wine lovers, this producer's work is a blessing. His entire range is of remarkable quality and immediately appealing. Year after year, the wines gain in finesse and precision, while respecting the balance and maturity of the south.

Meh. Too rich, too mature, too heavy. Lacks freshness and joie de vivre.

Tasted: 06.03.2025 Dark purple-red color with a cherry-red rim. On the nose, ripe and sun-dried red and dark fruit, garrigue, delicious, ripe fruit aromas of fruit that is optimally ripe. The palate echoes the nose, with lots of ripe fruit, chocolate and spice, beautiful tannin structure, fine acidity, grip, volume, balance, and freshness. A textbook example of a "simple" Côtes du Rhône of high quality. Pure drinking pleasure. I would like to have this in my glass several times a week. Score: 16/20

The classic design and serious production have allowed this CDR to retain a certain freshness that counterbalances its power. Added to this is a rich flavor of very concentrated, crunchy fruit enhanced by a hint of pepper. It is round, smooth, and luscious on the palate, with a long finish of beautiful spices. Superb R,Q/P. Easy to drink now, this charming, thirst-quenching wine will reveal all its aromatic qualities when served with a barbecue shared with friends as the warm weather arrives. In the meantime, it paired very well with a Limousin beef burger with smoked bacon and farmhouse Saint-Nectaire cheese. Score: 4.2.
