Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
A classic estate in the Mercurol sector, which consistently produces supple wines intended for early consumption. The Gaby cuvée is often more ambitious, with sometimes slightly excessive oakiness in certain vintages with low yields. The reds here are more successful than the whites, as confirmed by our tasting of the 2017 vintage.

About the estate:
Located in Mercurol, the estate proudly flies the flag for the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, of which it is one of the most reliable producers, especially the more ambitious and complex Gaby vintages.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 05/03/2024
A beautifully crafted classic Crozes-Hermitage. After a frank attack, the palate unfolds with freshness, amplitude, and depth, allowing the Syrah to blossom with finesse rather than power. The texture is pulpy and juicy, with flavors of red and black fruits (blackcurrant, purple plums, black cherries), well-balanced spices, and a hint of mocha in the background. It is well supported by medium-bodied, ripe tannins with a silky texture, perhaps still a little prominent, leading us to a vibrant finish of considerable length, underscored by a fine acidity drowned in a touch of pepper and a few notes of licorice. Without a false note. For a family Communion meal, this beautiful Crozes was unanimously appreciated by the guests, paired with Camargue bull tournedos with herbs cooked on the barbecue and a Provençal vegetable tian. Rating = 4.4.
