"Ventoux is good enough to eat!"

"The Ventoux Rouge 2023 is a great success for Fondrèche, with its aromas of blackberry, plum, violet, garrigue, and crushed stone. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, supple and complex, it is built around a vibrant fruit core, framed by fine tannins and lively underlying acidity. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, aged in a combination of concrete eggs and foudres, this is a precise and harmonious wine that combines the warmth of the south with freshness and depth. It will drink well upon release but will also improve after a few years in the cellar." (Wine Advocate 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This high-quality estate is masterfully managed by the dynamic Sébastien Vincenti, who has established it as one of the most serious and consistent producers in Ventoux. The vineyard covers 38 hectares, cultivated using organic farming methods, including a large 28-hectare plot surrounding the estate, on clay-limestone gravel soils. The estate mainly produces red wines, including the superb Cuvée Nature N, vinified without added sulfur and a model of its kind. An essential address in the region.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Nanou Barthélemy and her son Sébastien Vincenti acquired this property in 1995, built and regularly improved the cellar, and replanted the 40-hectare vineyard using organic and biodynamic methods (without certification), making Fondrèche one of the benchmarks of the Ventoux AOP.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About wine:

A round blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. On the nose, it reveals aromas of black cherries, plums, and baking spices, followed by a medium body with fine, firm tannins. Peppery and densely fruity. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or cellar.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91-93+/100

About wine:

Ventoux Domaine 2023 is a classic blend composed of 60% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged in a mixture of large oak barrels and concrete eggs. It brings more richness and depth, with a wonderful core of peppery black fruit, peppery garrigue, smoke, and crushed stone. Medium to full-bodied, well-concentrated, and textured, it should drink nicely now but will also age elegantly.

This Ventoux red is always excellent, both robust and fruity, very well-balanced with lovely red fruit flavors.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 05/06/2025

Both textured and full-bodied, Ventoux 2023, still in its youth, unfurls a generous and crisp juice infused with ripe black berries and pepper, nuanced by a few smoky and herbaceous notes, and perfectly supported by a slight mineral tension. The firm, silky tannins contribute to a long finish marked by a slight bitterness. A partnership showcasing Sisteron lamb would be a good match: skewers of offal with bacon and red pepper, roasted herb-crusted chops, stuffed eggplant au gratin with Parmesan cheese... Rating = 4.
